“Bye Thomas!” My mom screamed as she and my dad left to go see a movie. I finally had the whole house to myself. Even though it was a little creepy since it was so big. We were a very rich family and if I really wanted something I could usually get it. My mom and dad won’t tell me what they do to get all this money. Whenever I do ask it always seems like a sensitive subject, so I usually don’t ask. I walked to the fridge to get some soda. I grabbed the last can in the box and threw the box in our recycling bin. I walked to the other room and sat on the sofa. I grabbed the remote and checked the T.V. to see if anything good was on. I was deep into a surprisingly good movie when I heard a pan fall from inside the kitchen. I ran to the kitchen to see what fell when I saw muddy shoe prints scattered around the kitchen. I turned around and ran for the phone when all of a sudden, THWACK! Then everything went black.
I woke up in a strange room that I had never seen before. I was tied to a chair and couldn’t move an inch. These two men with extremely big plasma guns, which were more than likely stolen since there were still price tags on them, guarding the door. The one on the right yelled “He’s awake!” I wasn’t exactly sure if I should be scared or not but I was scared anyway. I had the butterflies in my stomach like when you’re about to do something in front of everyone or asking a girl to the dance.
A big man came in who had blue eyes with a big scar going down the left, he had no hair. All in all he was pretty scary. He asked me a lot of questions like “Who are your parents?” And “Who is your real mom?” And weird stuff like that. I just responded I don’t know, but they wouldn’t believe me. The big man who was asking me questions suddenly paused in the middle of a question and said “They’re here.” So that didn’t make things much better. I felt like I had a zoo of butterflies in my stomach. Suddenly just before the two big guys with the guns tried to open the door to investigate the door busted open and hit the big guys in the face which knocked them out. The man with the scar said “So, look who came to get their son.”.” What is he talking about?” I asked myself. There were three people in hoods but with guns that I could tell were expensive. The guy in the middle took their hood off. It was my mom.
If you didn’t know, my Mom’s name is Ronda. She isn’t the lady who gave birth to me but she is still my mom. You see I’m adopted so I’ve never ever seen the lady who gave birth to me. My mom said that the lady was very sick and that she was going to pass away soon, so she gave me away so I wouldn’t have to lose her. To me something always seemed a little strange in that story.
“What have you done to my son?” my mom asked. “Nothing… yet.” He said as he laughed. That made my mom furious. “You look a little mad Ronda, do you need me to get you some water?” he said laughing even harder. My mom pulled out a gun she had on a belt strap and shot him in the foot. There was a big empty hole in his foot from where my mom had shot him with the plasma pistol. The man looked shocked. “You just shot my foot” he looked like he would cry soon. “You just shot my foot” he said once again. My mom ran over to me while the man fell on the floor crying. “As soon as I untie you, follow one of those big guys I brought with me and they will take you to a car with your Dad in it, he will explain everything” “What about you?” I asked. “You’ll see me soon.” And with that she kissed me on the cheek and I ran for my life to the car I had no idea my dad was really in. I jumped into the car and my dad was sitting in the driver’s seat. “So” he started.
My Dad’s name is Paul. He has short brown hair, and dark blue eyes. He is tall, I’m almost as tall as him now but not yet. He usually spends his time in the garage fixing random things he finds on the side of the road when he is home. But like my mom he’s never home very much. We have the maid who stays at our house to watch me but she’s usually just sitting in the movie room watching reality T.V.
“The lady who gave birth to you is still alive and was never sick, she gave you away because she wasn’t a very good person. She was our greatest enemy. Me and your mom were in a very high class gang who gets paid a lot of money to rob things and do dirty jobs. But the lady who gave birth to you, her name is Nicole. She is in another gang but in a little bit lower class financial wise. They are our biggest enemies. We may not like fighting with them but in a way we sort of have too. Because if we don’t they still will and they will kill us. That’s really all there is. Oh yeah, me and your mom are second in charge that’s why we have so much money.” I stared in shock. “So you’re in a gang…” I started, “That runs around stealing things and doing dirty jobs and tries not to get caught, just so you can get money for the family?” “That about explains it.” He said. I started laughing, not because it was funny mostly because I was just pretty shocked. “We’re here.” Paul said. Yes, I said Paul because I don’t know if I should even call him Dad anymore I don’t know if I really know him. Are there more secrets he hasn’t said? Does he work for the FBI? Does he have ten other wives? Is his name really Paul? Who really is this man?
We got out of the car. It looked like we were on the other side of the city. In another sketchy side of town. “Well.” Paul said. “Here we are, home sweet home.” “Home?” I said furiously. “We’re not home. No, let me rephrase that. I’m not home. Maybe you are, I don’t know, maybe this is home to you, but it’s not for me. Home is my house where I live with my mom and dad who are a normal couple who love and care for each other and don’t keep big secrets from their kids!” I yelled. I ran off, I had no idea where I was running too. I ran for a while but it started to get late, and I know that when it gets dark on this side of town it truly gets dark and dangerous. I ran in the direction I came from and found Paul sitting by a fire with a couple of other big men with tattoos all over their arms. They seemed like they were having fun, out here, laughing, out here. Paul saw me. He told me that we can’t go back home because they know where we live now, who knows what they’d do to us. So we’re going to stay at this place away from the city.
Paul and I hopped in the car and started to drive. “Your mom is going to meet us there.” Paul said. “Hey, are you all right?” “No, I’m not all right you guys have been hiding things from me and I can’t stand it right now I’m not even calling you Dad anymore just Paul because truthfully I don’t know what to call you.” I said. “That’s perfectly okay, I would feel the same way you are feeling. But since we’re not keeping secrets anymore I need to tell you that tomorrow is a big day for the gang. Tomorrow we’re having a big fight. With the other gang. Now I don’t want you going. It’s going to be a real dangerous fight. Remember when I got that big cut on my arm and I said it was just an accident I had fixing something in the garage?” “Yeah…” I said. “Well, it wasn’t an accident, this is where it came from.” For some reason I had this urge to go and help fight with my so called parents. Part of me feels like it would bring the family back together and maybe just maybe everything would go back to normal. But the other part of me told me that I have to go fight with my parents and help them beat this other gang once and for all. “I’m going to go fight.” I demanded “I’m going to go fight and you and mom cannot stop me.” Paul looked confused. “Why?” he said. “Because I want to bring this family back and have regular normal lives I want to believe that you are my parents, I want to believe that this family will be normal once and for all.” “Ok” he said “But you have to be careful because this ain’t no video game.” “I know Dad.” Dad smiled “So I see you’re calling me Dad now?” “You bet.” I said. Maybe this won’t be as bad as I thought.
We finally arrived at the house that Dad was talking about. It was a cabin in the middle of nowhere. Mom was there and told me how sorry she was and that she loves me even though she held secrets from me, stuff like that. But now it’s time for bed. I went to my room and to my surprise it had family pictures covering the walls. It held so many memories. I looked at the picture with Mom, Dad, and me sliding down the biggest waterslide in the world. That was probably one of the best times I’ve ever had with them. My bed was a bunk bed. I slid in under the bottom just to see how it felt. Ahhh, memory foam. The softest, squishiest, most comfortable mattress ever made. I needed to get up and take a shower but it was too late, I was sound asleep.
I woke up around sixish, because I heard the sound of plates clattering. I went downstairs and looked. It was the man with the scar. “Oh, well look who it is.” I started running. I tried to scream but nothing came out. He pulled out a knife. I ran upstairs and into my parent’s room, except it wasn’t my parent’s room. Crap! I don’t know this house well enough. Apparently I’m in the hall closet. “You can run, but you can’t hide.” He muttered slowly. I had to get out of here. But how? I heard him walk into the room across the hall. “Okay.” I said to myself. “If I quickly run to the door next to me that should be my parents’ room.” I heard the man look in the closet of the room he just went to. “Now or never.” I burst open the door and ran to the one next to me and slammed the door. My mom slowly rose up. Tiredly she said “What’s going on honey?” “Th…the.. man….wi..with.. with the scar… he’s… here.” I said between gasps of air. My mom and dad jumped out of bed and threw the pillows on the floor. There were guns underneath them. “How can you sleep with that under you?” I asked. “Lots of years of practice.” My dad responded. That slightly made me sad. All those times when I was young and had I nightmare I would walk to my parents room and snuggle up between them. The guy with the scar suddenly burst down the door. “Oh, well then. I guess we’re having a family reunion. Hi, my name’s Jeff and I’m your uncle. Well, part uncle I guess since you were adopted and all.” That didn’t bother me right now. I figured he had to be related to me. He sort of looks like me and you can just tell when your blood related. All of a sudden my dad pulled out the gun and shot him in the chest. Jeff fell down with a big bang. The floor boards started to creak and the whole floor suddenly collapsed underneath our feet. I got up almost as soon as a fell. Everything was dizzy but all I cared about was are my parents okay. I looked around all I could see was dust. I finally saw and arm under the blankets from the bed. I ran over to where I saw the arm and pulled Jeff out. I screamed. But then realized he was probably dead. I ran outside and saw the bed. I found my mom and dad on either sides of the bed. They got up and we had a big family hug. That’s when the clapping started and that’s when my other mom came out.
My parents suddenly pulled out their guns. My other mom said, “Now Ronda, is that anyway to treat your sister.” My mom looked down at me to see if I was mad at her for not telling me that she was her sister. I wasn’t. She did the right thing in not telling me that she was her sister. “I need you to leave right now, Beth, before you do anything stupid.” So Beth was her name.
“I guess we’re going to have to do our little showdown right now instead of later today.” Beth said. “I guess so.” Paul said. “Hey guys! Get out here and get ready to fight.” Beth screamed. Suddenly a lot of people with big muscles came running towards where we were. It shocked me that there were kids and teenagers in the group that was coming down to fight. Ronda took out her phone and called someone from our gang. Suddenly there was a gun shot and the phone flew in the air. Beth had shot the phone. “No back up. We’re going to settle this our way.” Luckily my mom got to tell the man on the phone where our coordinates were. “So little sis, how’s life?” Beth said. “It’s been great until our brother decided to kidnap my son.” My Mom said. “Hey, Thomas do you want me to tell why I gave you up? Oh wait, I didn’t your mother and your father over there decided to take you away from me. They left a note saying how sorry they were and that it was better for them to have one because I can always have another and that she can’t have children. That’s how the gangs started, the west side and the east side gangs. We don’t really have names we just say the other gang and then everyone gets the message but when it’s unclear we just say west side and the east side. Anyways now that you know that your parents are terrible people will you come over to your real mother so you won’t get hurt by all the secrets they hold.” It was really tempting. She is my mother and Paul and Ronda kidnapped me when I was a baby. “Okay, I said I’ll go over there.” I said. “Ronda and Paul looked as though they were about to cry. I gave them a big ole wink. “Wait, I want to say goodbye to them.” “Fine, make it quick.” I ran over and gave my mom a big hug and whispered “I’m tricking them I’d never betray you. I’m just trying to buy some time to wait for the guys in our gang to come.” They should be hear any minute now. I went over to Dad and gave him a hug and told him the same thing. I then ran over to Beth. “Can I have a phone please?” I asked. “Absolutely.” Beth said. She gave me the phone and I ran to the remains of the cabin. I then dialed 911.
The rest of our gang members showed up. I could tell that it took about 30 minutes to get out here. So the cops should be here in 15minutes. Great. I have to find a way to distract them. “LOOK!” I screamed. I pointed out into the woods where I saw nothing. “I…I saw something.” I said lying to her. Beth sent some of here men to go check it out. When they came back Beth pulled out a gun and pointed it to my head. “Do you think I’m that gullible?” she said angrily. “I knew you would probably pull a stunt like this. That’s why I lied about the note. So you would come over here and I could use you as a defense. Because now you parents won’t do anything because I have the advantage right now, kid. You are the advantage.” My mom and dad looked worried. “Don’t worry.” I yelled. “She won’t do anything to…..” I heard a gunshot and then felt a pain in my lower stomach. I looked down and saw my white shirt suddenly turning red. Then I blacked out.
I woke up in an ambulance with a very bad pain in my stomach. I looked over and saw my parents. “Are….are you okay? Did the cops get them?” I asked “Yes.” My mom said in a very pleasant tone. “They got them.” Then I passed out. I woke up and found myself in a hospital bed. My mom was in the chair next to my dad asleep. But my dad was awake. “How long have I been passed out for?” I asked “Three days.” He responded. “Is it over?” I asked. “It’s over.” Dad said.
I woke up in a strange room that I had never seen before. I was tied to a chair and couldn’t move an inch. These two men with extremely big plasma guns, which were more than likely stolen since there were still price tags on them, guarding the door.
